Hunting

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources recently released their hunting statistics for the 2007 hunting season, which runs from October thru December. Researches anticipated a reduction in the number of whitetail deer due to an Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease outbreak. This was not found to be the case however, as the 2007 season proved to be the third highest on record. Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease is a viral disease transmitted by biting flies, but is not passed on to humans. There were 124,427 whitetail deer killed 2007 compared to 125,381 whitetail killed in 2006 and 125,526 deer killed in 2005, which set the state record. The Indiana season is divided to include firearms, muzzleloaders and archery hunting periods.
