Rose Corby honored by Hunter Education Advisory Committee at Wichita workshop
PRATT — At an April 16 hunter education workshop in Wichita, the Kansas Hunter Education Advisory Committee honored Rose Corby, Wichita, as the 2010 Instructor of the Year. Corby first became an instructor in 2001, teaching alongside her husband, Michael, an instructor since 1986. Together they have assisted with countless classes in and around the Wichita area. The advisory committee who selected Corby is comprised of volunteer hunter education instructors who work under the umbrella of the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) Hunter Education Program.

“To say Rose was extremely active in hunter education in 2010 is an understatement,” said Monica Bickerstaff, assistant Hunter Education Program coordinator for KDWP. “From mid-July through mid-December, she organized six classes (including a women-only class), assisted with seven other classes, and worked tirelessly toward establishment of an accredited hunter education instructor preparation course to be offered to Wichita State University (WSU) students this fall. She never turns down an opportunity to excel.”

During that time, Corby also traveled to Wyoming and Colorado to help train their instructors in conducting trail walks, and represented Region 4 on the Kansas Hunter Education Instructor Association Board of Directors.

Corby is working on a B.S. in criminal justice at WSU. She has assisted in coordinating facilities for veteran instructor academies. She has also coordinated and facilitated new instructor orientation workshops.

Corby received a CZ over-and-under shotgun with her award.
