Come and try your hand at an ancient form of hunting!
WHAT: First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park is hosting the Annual Montana Atlatl Mammoth Hunt over Labor Day Weekend.
The atlatl predates the bow and arrow and was the first true weapon system developed by humans. This weapon was used by Native Americans to hunt the great wooly mammoth as well as many other large prehistoric animals. The atlatl was used by cultures all over the world and is still in use in remote parts of Australia and South America.
Regional members of the World Atlatl Association in conjunction with First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park will provide visitors a chance to learn more about the atlatl and practice throwing with this unique weapon.
