Permits to float the Smith River are out and those lucky enough to receive one are planning their trip, while those unlucky in the drawing are planning to call the reservation line when it opens March 17. Colin Maas, Fish, Wildlife and Parks Smith River manager, has one piece of advice for those who would call March 17: Wait. 'There are not many cancellations the first week,' Maas says.
