Fish Wildlife & Parks (FWP) Commission approved the spring 2011 harvest of up to two male turkeys per hunter in southeastern Montana Region 7. Spring hunters can harvest up to 2 gobblers in Region 7 or 1 gobbler in Region 7 and 1 gobbler in other general hunting or special permit areas. The spring season begins on April 9th and runs through May 15th. Means of taking are limited to shotgun or long, recurve or compound bow and arrow during the spring season but the fall season also allows the use of a rifle. For the fall season (September 1, 2011- January 1, 2012) tentatively one turkey of either sex can be harvested. The fall harvest will be addressed by the Commission in August. Population information gathered by regional biologists this spring and summer will be the foundation for fall harvest recommendations considered by the Commission in August.
