With one week of big game rifle season left in west-central Montana, winter weather is creating ideal conditions for many hunters. So far this season, harvest totals reported at the region’s three hunter check stations are tallying in behind last year for elk and mule deer, while white-tailed deer harvest is up 15 percent.
