Opening day of the 2009 general deer and elk season was considered normal by those who ventured out. "It was very typical," said Dave Holland, Fish, Wildlife and Parks game warden. "We had snow in the mountains and hunter numbers were pretty average." Montana’s five-week general season for deer and elk began yesterday a half an hour before dawn. The season ends a half hour after sunset Nov. 29.
