Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is seeking comment on proposed fishing regulation changes for 2011. The changes, to go into effect March 1, 2011, include proposed changes in the Western, Central and Eastern fishing districts. WESTERN DISTRICT and middot; On Flathead Lake, to protect the bull trout population, the lake trout limit would be raised to 100 daily in possession, with no change to the slot limit.

Big game hunters in north central Montana should expect widely varying conditions depending on the species they seek, say state wildlife biologists. There are lots of elk and plenty of white-tailed deer, but in some spots average to below average mule deer and antelope numbers. North of Great Falls, for example, the numbers look pretty good, reports Gary Olson, Fish, Wildlife and Parks wildlife biologist in Conrad.

Registration for the Polson Hunter Education course is scheduled for Tuesday, September 7 at 6:30 pm at the Polson Middle School Cafeteria. Classes run September 14 – 17 (Tues – Fri), 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The test is scheduled for the last hour at the September 17 class. The field course is scheduled for Saturday, September 18.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) has released a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for review and public comment regarding a proposal to provide $34,175 for a shooting range improvement grant to the Great Falls Shooting Sports Complex (GFSSC) for partial funding to install four traps in existing skeet fields and improvements to the pistol range. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) continues to assess the status of pneumonia in the Lost Creek (Anaconda) bighorn sheep population in west central Montana, where the disease was first detected on Aug. 20. Biologists now believe that the disease may be concentrated in and around the Olson Gulch area west of Anaconda.
