FWP will be host a public meeting in Kalispell on May 15 at the Red Lion Inn (20 N. Main Street) to discuss bison management. The meeting runs from 6-9 p.m. and is part of a first step toward developing a long-term bison conservation and management plan for the state.

A young male grizzly was caught on May 15 near Ferndale after the bear was seen grazing on lawns in a residential area. Grizzly Bear Management Specialist Tim Manley said the 2-1/2 year old bear weighed about 120 pounds. The grizzly was released the same day in the Unawah Creek Drainage along Hungry Horse Reservoir in the South Fork Flathead drainage.

Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP), Region One, is seeking public comment for the purpose of continuing an experimental removal of lake trout in Swan Lake, Montana. The proposed action would involve contracting with professional fishery consultants to conduct gillnetting over a 3-week period beginning late August or early September 2012. Additionally, FWP and Swan Valley Bull Trout Working Group personnel will remove spawning adult lake trout during the months of October and November by gillnetting along known lake trout spawning sites. These activities would be conducted annually for five years.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, the US Forest Service and the US Army Corps of Engineers are sponsoring the annual Troy Kids’ Fishing Day on June 16, 2012 from 9 am to 1 pm. The event will take place at the Troy Community Pond at Roosevelt Park, and is open to kids of all ages. Prizes will be given out for the largest fish.
