SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. – On Sept. 10, 1861, Union troops led by Brigadier General William S. Rosecrans engaged the Confederation and forced them to evacuate entrenched positions overlooking Carnifex Ferry. The South was led by General John B. Floyd; the North was led by General William S. Rosecrans. This historic battle will be recreated on Sunday, Sept. 11. Encampments, military drills and related activities will be set up on Saturday, Sept. 10. All activities are at Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park near Summersville in Nicholas County.
